More Support At Home Program Packages are coming. Start your care with a $200 voucher

Professional Care at Home

New Support At Home Packages are being released across Australia. Choose The District Nurses to start your care and receive a $200 Supermarket voucher as a little extra support with the cost of living. Terms and conditions apply.

Starting Support At Home Services

Navigating aged care can feel complex, especially when it involves decisions about you, or your loved one’s comfort and
independence. Wherever you are in the Support At Home Package process, The District Nurses provide trusted guidance and
professional support, helping your family make clear and confident choices every step of the way.

Pre-assessment

Beginning the journey can feel overwhelming, especially when you are unsure where to begin or what support is available.

The first step is to contact My Aged Care, which acts as the government gateway to services such as Support At Home Packages.

Understanding this process and preparing early will give you greater confidence and help your family take the right steps from the start.

Waiting for Approval

After your assessment, there is often a period of waiting before funding is approved.

This stage can feel uncertain, but it is also a valuable time to prepare. Families can use this period to discuss priorities, stay organised with paperwork, and start researching different service options.

Taking these steps now ensures that when approval arrives, you are ready to move forward quickly and without added stress.

Approved and Waiting for
Your Package

Being approved for a Support At Home Package is an important milestone, but there are still steps before services begin.

Once you receive your referral code, you will have 56 days to choose a provider and sign a Support At Home Program Agreement.

Acting promptly ensures there are no delays in getting care started and allows your family to begin planning services that best meet your needs and preferences.

Whatever stage you are at, The District Nurses will work alongside you to make the Home
Care Package process clear, supportive, and tailored to you and your family’s needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the new Support At Home packages? -

The Australian Government has released additional Support At Home packages that provide funding for professional care services. The District Nurses can provide the personal care, nursing, domestic assistance, and social support services covered by these packages to help you stay independent at home.

Who is eligible for a Support At Home package? +

Generally, you’re eligible if you’re 65 or older (or 50+ for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) and need help with daily activities. You’ll need an assessment from the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT), but we can help guide you through this process.

How much do these packages cost? +

The cost of care is determined by your current income and assets. Government subsidies significantly reduce the out-of-pocket expenses of the packages, making quality care affordable for most families. For personalised advice, please contact the expert team at The District Nurses.

How quickly can I access a package? +

With the release of 40,000 packages by the end of 2025, wait times have significantly reduced. Once you have your ACAT assessment, we can often arrange services within 2–4 weeks. Previously, people waited months or even years.

What services are included in Support At Home packages? +

Packages can include personal care, nursing care, physiotherapy, domestic assistance, meal preparation, transport to appointments, social support, and home modifications. The specific services depend on your assessed needs and package level.

Why choose The District Nurses? +

We’re a Commonwealth-approved provider with over 125 years of experience serving Tasmania. We offer personalised care plans, qualified staff, 24/7 support, and comprehensive services across all of Tasmania. Our focus is on helping you maintain independence and dignity at home.
