Foot Care Clinic

The District Nurses provide a Foot Care service at our 2 Birdwood Avenue, headquarters.

The provision of basic foot care is normal activity of daily living, essential to the maintenance of healthy, functioning feet.

All nurses have a professional responsibility when providing assistance with activities of daily living to include attention to a persons feet.

The provision of basic foot care by nurses is as follows. This regulation has been endorsed by the Nurse Association and a Australian Podiatry Association, January 1997.

Basic Foot care is defined:

“the fundamental attention given to normal toe nails and skin surfaces of the foot, including the cutting of toe nails, the removal of superficial dead skin material interdigitally and the application to the skin of emollients or rehydrating agents."

Clause 21 of the 1995 Regulation allows a person to provide basic Foot care if that person is:

“employed by a hospital, nursing home or community health centre and provides the service as part of their normal duties in that employment”.

There is a clear boundary between the provision of basic foot care and the practice of   podiatry. Podiatrists do provide basic foot care and podiatry services. Nurses are only involved in the provision of basic foot care.

Our Foot Care consultants have  attended an accredited course for Basic Foot Care for registered and enrolled nurses in New South Wales.

  • Cost per consultation is $20.00 (pensioners, HACC clients); non pensioners $30.00

  • You do not have to be a client of the service to make an appointment.

If you require further information or need to make and appointment please phone 6273 3000 between the hours of 8am - 4:30pm.
